a house built on sand

There is a man in the corner

who no one seems to give a passing glance

he thinks he has it all

but his kingdom's sure to fall

for he's built that tower all on the sand

then one day

he sees a man

greater than a king

but oh how could it be

can this be the one they speak of

He is despised and rejected

can this be the one they speak of

who refuses when they try to make Him king

can this be the man we've dreamed of

when He doesn't wear armor, nor a cape

can this be the one we're looking for

oh how could this be the man

well he went back to the tower

back to the sand

back to the women

and all his vain plans

back to the riches

and a life of grandeur

yet something was different for evermore

his heart seemed so heavy

could this be the one

some men did say this was God's only Son

then one day

walking in the desert

water in his jug

he saw that man again thirsty and dry

ah ha he thought

see how I must be wise

for I have this water and He is despised

then he watched as this man went up to a woman

from a Samaritan town

he almost laughed thinking how desperate must this man be

but it wast the woman he saw

who received a greater drink

suddenly he felt thirsty

and he felt alone

he forgot all his errands

he ran right back home

to his place upon the sand

he cried into his hands

and said

could this be the One

how could this be God's only Son

just a poor carpenter

can this be the King

who'll put rebellion down

with the Government on His shoulders

could He truly even fit a crown

how can I know it's Him

when I'm so full of sin

he saw that man again

this time feeding a multitude

with just some bread and some fish

he thought

there'd be no bread left for him

but yet into his hands was placed plenty

he grew full in his stomach and full in his heart

and he said

could this be the One we've been waiting for

could this be the man

who'll take all our sin away

how could he be the one

he won't let us make Him king today

can this man be the one for whom we watch and pray

and one day in the square

he stopped to see that man again

teaching men in the street

then some pharisees

brought a woman to her knees

as she was weeping there

this man's judgment grew impaired

he mocked and jeered with the crowd

and picked up a stone to throw

then he looked into the eyes

of the Saviour of all life

suddenly he dropped the stone

heard that lovely voice

who among you hasn't sinned

suddenly he felt his shame

what a disgrace to his father's name

he dropped the stone and fled

he cried upon his bed

in house that sits on sand

he cried aloud

could this be the man

could He be the Great I AM

I swear He's shown me who I am

now I know He will be King

and I'll worship at His feet

and He can use this big fancy home

to house His worldly throne

but little did this man know

there'd be no earthly throne

then one day at Calvary

a sight put a shiver in his knees

he saw there was a man

with a crown fitted just for Him

could this be the man who saw my sin

could this be Him

could this be the One I've been dreaming of

He wears no armor

has no shield

His enemies do strike, oh why won't He make them yield

this cannot be that Man

who on the banks did stand

this cannot be that Man

who set Mary free

then he saw the crowd crucify Him on a tree

the rich man fell to His knees

and said

you fools this is the One

this is God's only Son

this is the great I AM

now you have slain an innocent man

oh how could it be

He came to set us free

now you say Caesar is your king

now this man wept there on his knees

until he heard a sinner's dying plea

oh Jesus won't You remember me

suddenly silence filled the air

assuredly I say

I promise you today

 you will be with Me

this man got up from his knees

could it truly be

could this man hanging on a tree

be freer than the maddened throng

who crucified their only hope for God

this man was feeling week

again he fell down to his knees

and he wept there at the feet

of a man who made Him now complete

then suddenly a mighty cry

rang through the air

to end the darkest night

It is Finished

now that's this man's song

and he said

surely this is the One

this is God's only Son

I don't know what happens next

but I know that He's the King

He died to set me free

and now He is a conquerer

it is finished

it is done

He bought me back from all the things I've done

and that night he did not reach his home

he did not reach the sand

he fell asleep on a solid Rock

singing hymns to the great I AM

well three days later he heard the news

there was an empty tomb

and he said

could this be what we've been waiting for

the King has come to buy us from the dead

for my sin

and for all the world

He bruised His sovereign head

pierced His hands

His feet His sides

even hung on a cross and died

buried He saved us from all sin

He killed the liar that lives within

a man on a house of sand

now I rest on the solid Rock

I will love my Saviour

I will love my God

so he sold that house on the sand

gave everything away to another man

and went to spread the news

of the King of the Gentiles and of Jews
